Class 4-Virtual Class Meeting Instructions

Hello RE 5130 folks!
I hope you are doing well…we are experiencing BLIZZARD CONDITIONS IN BOONE. ASU has canceled classes—you know it is bad when this happens. So…our class is canceled this evening due to this inclement weather. We will not meet in Hickory, rather in a virtual world.  I expect EACH OF YOU to do the following DURING our scheduled meeting time and post your response to your blogs BY 9pm (at the latest) TONIGHT!

1.    Be sure you have created a POETRY post about the following readings:
•    Chapter 10 from Janet Elliott’s Using the Writer’s Notebook in Grades 3-8.
•    Cold Plums…Let Children Read and Write Great Poetry!
•    Love That Dog and Brown Angels.
•    A few poems from All the Small Poems.
•    This Is Just to Say… by Joyce Sidman
Remember, you need to reference each reading in some capacity and be specific about connections you are making. This should have been posted already. ☺

2.    Post your journal invitation to your blog; go to the little sun icon:

Upload/Insert  Add Media This is how you upload files (word documents, pdf, PowerPoint, etc.)…If have a publisher file, be sure to save it as a PDF file so that you can upload it to your blogs. Throughout this upcoming week (before our next class meeting) give members of your writing circles feedback on their journal invitation.

3.    Create a new post on your blog titled: Class 4-Virtual Class Meeting

4.    Go to our Class 4 LOVE THAT POETRY! page: http://fryeemla.wordpress.com/syllabus/class-4/ Download the PowerPoint GOT POETRY? The Art of Imitation : whatispoetry_Part1 and VIEW IT CAREFULLY. Go to your new post Class 4-Virtual Class Meeting and respond to the PPT-make connections to the Poetry readings, your own experiences, and pose any questions you have.

5.    If you have not already done so, post your pictures of 2 ordinary items that are meaningful to you…after viewing the class PowerPoint, you should be able to figure out your “poetry idea” connection to So Much Depends Upon…hint, hint (your ordinary object!)

6.    Read Valerie Worth’s poem about the safety pin on p. 48 in All the Small Poems…Under your post Class 4-Virtual Class Meeting respond to her poem and discuss writing a poem about…paper clips. Look at the safety pin poem as a model and think about the art of imitation. Find a silver paper clip and write down words or phrases that describe the paper clip. Follow the model (SAID Strategy) I provide in the PowerPoint and post your observations to your blog post Class 4-Virtual Class Meeting. Next week, we will complete a shared poetry writing.

7.    Finally, go through the links under our Class 4 http://fryeemla.wordpress.com/syllabus/class-4/ Please add to your blog post Class 4-Virtual Class Meeting and respond to any links you found helpful, fascinating, etc. Wrap the class up.

8.    For next week, follow all of your assignments listed under class 4. BRING ALL OF YOUR POETRY BOOKS TO CLASS…WE WILL HAVE A POETRY PARTY!

I will be responding to each and every blog. Please look for my comments and be sure to APPROVE THE COMMENTS!!!!
